Since I seem to be remaking a lot of Genesis Sonic game intros, I thought that I might as well animate this one from Sonic & Knuckles. In my opinion, it has the best opening of them all, it just screams "ADVENTURE!" as soon as you see Sonic.
But I digress...
Now for all of the technical aspects of the flash. I just want to point out that EVERYTHING here was drawn in Flash. No sprites, no previously-made images; 100% recreated. And boy, did that take a toll on my wrist. The background was about four layers on its own, and I spent about 2-3 hours staring at references. Even the Death-Egg was hand made, but it was surprisingly easy to make. Especially the 3D-esque shading. The title was about 7 layers, but much easier to draw.
Onto the characters themselves... Sonic was a PAIN to draw, especially when adding in the shading. Knuckles, on the other hand, was much easier to deal with as his movements are much more sedentary. He's a life-saver. I wanted to add in lighting on them, but I nixed the idea. I got tired of this project after the 5th day.
If anything bothered me the most, it was the timing. I had to constantly refer back to the intro (via Youtube) to get the timing right: "When does the Death-Egg land?" "When does Knuckles appear?" "How should the background be positioned?" and so on... I didn't quite get to "finish" the animation because I wanted to add in the fade-out that all of the games used to do when the title theme finished. That will have to wait for another time, though.
And there you have it.

This made me remember the day I first played this... one of the best days of my life, and one of the best games I've ever played. This is great, thanks for sharing and giving me the joy of remembering one of the best times of my childhood. Damn, it almost brings a tear to my eye that intro... <3
